Sir Elton John is joining a list of celebrities donating to help Australian fire services in the midst of the deadly bushfires raging across the country.
During his January 7th show at Qudos Bank in Sydney, the 71-year-old British icon announced that he will be making a $1 million dollar donation to the victims of the bushfires in Australia.
"We should all be in the awe of the work the firefighters are doing," he said. "There are people out there who have lost their lives trying to save homes; there are people who have lost their lives and their homes."
He continued:
"And lastly, there's the plight of the animals, a loss of their habitat that frankly is on a biblical scale, and it's heartbreaking. Therefore tonight, I will be pledging $1 million dollars to support the bushfire relief fund."
The announcement received a standing ovation from the audience.
That night, John performed a 25-song set, complete with a two-song encore. He opened with "Bennie and the Jets" and performed classics such as "Border Song," "Tiny Dancer," "Rocket Man," "Candle in the Wind," "The Bitch Is Back," "Crocodile Rock" and "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting."
He pulled cuts from all of his albums like Caribou, Madman Across the Water and Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player before ending with "Your Song" and "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road."
