Quarantini Hour: The Foxies Talk The OC, Music + More

What happens when punk energy fuses with electronic pop waves? You get the bitchin' sounds of The Foxies, a three-piece band form Nashville, Tennessee who are giving us serious No Doubt vibes!

One listen to "Call Me When Your Phone Dies" and you'll be banging along to the heavy bass lines, and electric hooks, take a listen below:

"Call Me When Your Phone Dies"

The glitter-punk band, like the rest of the us, is practicing social distancing at this time so we asked them to join us for setlist.fm's Quarantini Hour, to find out what they're up to, what they're watching, what they're listening to, etc. The answers? Below!

How have you / your band been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic?

Frontwoman and band founder, Julia Lauren Bullock: COVID-19 has forced us to reschedule all of our upcoming shows. We are currently writing in different states; communicating through a screen. It's difficult and it's not what we are used to, but it is the "new normal" now and we have to adapt. I'm very blessed to have wonderful parents and brothers to be quarantined with. I'm treating it as a creative retreat. With no human contact haha.

Paint us a picture of your current headquarters

Julia: Currently my headquarters is the house I grew up in, in the suburbs of Waxhaw, NC. Abundance of trees. Booze. Dogs running around a sprinkler in the backyard. Lots of culdesacs.

Guitarist Jake Ohlbaum: I brought my whole studio to Philadelphia so I could be with my mom! I’m hiding out in her guest room, making coffee, making music, and watching a lot of Netflix. Philly is a bit of a ghost town, but I’m very grateful for my tiny space to create.

Drummer Rob Bodley: I am set up in my house out in South Nashville, by Percy Priest Lake. The lake has a bunch of trails that I have been walking to stay active. I have a little mixing studio and gaming setup in my house.

What activities have you been doing to keep yourself busy?

Julia: I've been trying to stick to a routine so I don't go insane. Wake up, do some networking for the newest single of ours, workout, paint, then make a cocktail;) ain't too shabby.

Jake: Working out, watching lots of tv, catching up with friends, and making MUSIC!

ROB: I have been practicing around 5 hours a day, rearranging live sets, and watching live performances of some of the best performers in the business. Trying to keep that edge and stay busy!

What movies and TV have you been watching?

Julia: I honestly haven't been watching much TV except for the freaking OC. I'm super late to the Seth Cohen game but holy cow. Addicted. Also...do teenagers really party like that? I was doing it all wrong...

(Seth Cohen, aka Adam Brody<3)

Embedded content is no longer available.

Jake: I started Broad City. I watch a LOT of The Office. Lots of concert videos and interviews to remind me of easier times without social distancing.

ROB: I just finished watching the Anime series Naruto, which I highly recommend. Other than that I have been too busy working on music to watch anything new.

What music or podcasts have you been listening to?

Julia: I've been listening to a lot of Third Eye Blind radio on Pandora. Mainly because that's kind of my family's reunion station. Also been rotating a lot of Wallows, Kevin Krauter, and Foo Fighters.

Third Eye Blind - Blinded (When I See You)

Wallows- Treacherous Doctor

Kevin Krauter- Pretty Boy

Jake: So many amazing artists have put out new stuff during this time. Listening to new Dawes, Jackson Browne, Vanessa Carlton, Gabrielle Alpin, and so many more.

ROB: I’ve been listening to all the new singles that my friends have recently released but mainly just been watching live performances from Justin Timberlake, Charlie Puth, Lady Gaga, pretty much any live pop artist that plays with a live band.

Justin Timberlake - Super Bowl LII Halftime Show (Live)

Lady Gaga - ENIGMA Live at Super Saturday Night

Charlie Puth - The Voicenotes Tour Live

Are you planning on tuning into or producing any livestream performances?

Jake: Yes! I’ve seen some really cool live stream performances from a bunch of artists, and there’s a few coming up as well. I’ll be taking our fans behind the scenes of our production and writing space during our instagram live.

As for streams I’ve been watching, a few of my favorites have been some of my friends in Ron Gallo, Katie Pruitt, and Devon Gilfillian. Shut In & Sing fest 2020 is also having so many artists and doing different shows every 3 days or so!

How can fans support you in this time of tour postponements and social distancing?

ROB: Honestly, you can support us by staying safe and staying home. The sooner we get through this, the sooner we all can get back to “normal” life.

What’s your best song for getting through a scary/confusing time?

Julia: My tune currently that I have had on repeat is “Aurora” by Foo Fighters. I had honestly forgotten about that whole album but the day I got back to my hometown of Waxhaw, I was sifting through music with my dad and I re-stumbled upon that song and that album. I played that song, and fell in love all over again. It’s a love song to nostalgia. And more importantly it has given me happiness and hope.

Jake: American Tune by Paul Simon and Some Nights by fun. Always get me in a better mood and make me feel less alone :)

ROB: In honor of Julias favorite band, “Higher” Creed :)

Julia: Hahahah ROB!

What are a few of your best songs for an at-home workout playlist?

Julia: For my workouts, I have been blasting some Lizzo, The Story so Far, Joy Division, anything off of the GRIND Skateboarding movie soundtrack, and some Beach Slang to just name a few.

Lizzo - Juice

The Story So Far- Light Year

Joy Division- Disorder

Billy Talent - Line & Sinker

Beach Slang - Bad Art & Weirdo Ideas

Jake: I listen to a lot of punk music when I work out. Big fan of Green Day, Nirvana, Blink 182, Paramore, and The Donnas! Sometimes I’ll also put on an entire OutKast album and work out to that…

ROB: Oh boy, Well I am a Warped Tour kid at heart, so Yellowcard, Thrice, Beloved, this one is probably an odd ball but Limp Bizkit- Break stuff (I mean come on. It’s a jam).

Yellowcard- Awakening

Thrice- Silhouette

Limp Bizkit- Break Stuff

Beloved- Death to Traitors
