Built to Spill Kickoff "Keep It Like a Secret" Anniversary Tour

It's been 20 years since Built to Spill released their cult and college radio favorite LP - Keep It a Secret - their 4th studio album from 1999. In celebration, the band is touring around North America for most of the year and performing the album in full. But it's not just another nostalgic trip, band leader Doug Martsch has heavily evolved these tracks since 1999.

“Most of these songs I’ve been playing live over the years, To me, it’s just going out and playing shows...there’s no emotional attachment to the 90′s," he said.

The tour officially kicked off on June 21st at Lucky You Lounge in Spokane, Washington and then from there they took the show to Bonner, Missoula and Bozeman, Montana. Each night, the band perform all ten songs (out of sequencing order) and mixed in other beloved BTS tracks too.

The KILAS songs are indeed evolved as the Boise band turn the pop anthems into improvised jams to keep the element of surprise alive. Martsch also added in "When Not Being Stupid is Not Enough" from their collaborate EP with Caustic Resin and also "Planned Obsolescence" by Martsch's K Records band with Calvin Johnson, The Halo Benders.

They also worked in songs like "Living Zoo," "Reasons," "Strange," "I Would Hurt a Fly" and more!

Check out their 16-song setlist from the Bozeman gig last night (June 23):

The eclectic indie rockers continue their trek all summer AND fall long, make sure to catch them and their opening support, fellow Boise band Clarke and the Himselfs, and Brazilian band Oruã, who performs almost entirely in Portuguese. Both bands were handpicked by Martsch!
