Santana Begins Supernatural Now Tour with The Doobie Brothers!

50 years after his iconic Woodstock performance, Latin-rocker Carlos Santana is on the road in support of his band's electric new album, Africa Speaks, on a trek dubbed The Supernatural Now Tour.

The new, 11-track record was produced by the legendary Rick Rubin and features lyrics in English, Spanish and Yoruba.

When the iconic guitarist took the Woodstock stage in 1969, he was unknown. "We had the element of surprise," frontman Carlos Santana said, "because nobody knew us." Half a century later, the band has become an iconic household name.

The Supernatural Now Tour celebrates their 50th anniversary of their iconic Woodstock performance as well as the 20th anniversary of their 1999 comeback record, Supernatural.

The tour kicked off June 22 at the Ak-Chin Pavilion in Phoenix and is scheduled to wrap up August 25 at the Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, N.Y. The Doobie Brothers are providing support on all dates.

On the tour's opening night, The Doobie Brothers kicked things off at the Ak-Chin Pavilion with a 12-song main set with a two-song encore, featuring covers of Kim Weston's "Take Me in Your Arms (Rock Me a Little While)" and The Art Reynolds Singers' "Jesus is Just Alright" as well as original tracks "Dark Eyed Cajun Woman," "Long Train Runnin'" and "Black Water."

Later on, Santana played a 13-song main set with a three-song encore, including covers of Babatunde Olatunji's "Jin-go-lo-ba," Tito Puente's "Oye como va" and The Chambers Brothers' "Are You Ready" and "Love, Peace and Happiness."

The highlight of the set came when Santana brought out Rob Thomas to join him on "Voodoo Child." Fans KNEW that meant an epic performance of "Smooth" was waiting to happen. Thomas came back out several songs later during the encore to perform the popular 1999 song!

Other highlights included "Soul Sacrifice," "The Game of Love," and "Maria Maria."

Santana setlist (June 22)

"I feel like a 20-year-old onstage playing with this band, and they deliver on every song," Carlos Santana said in a statement.

"When we hit the stage, we know we will touch your heart and make you dance, sing, cry, laugh and leave your baggage behind. The shows will be well balanced between the hits of yesterday, today and tomorrow … with energy!"

"We look forward to sharing the stage with Santana and have an incredible set lined up for audiences," the Doobie Brothers added. "It's going to be a great tour."
