On This Day: Woodstock 1994 Took Place, See Our Favorite Setlists

The three-day Woodstock 1994 Music Festival occurred 26 years ago today (August 12-14th) to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the original, legendary fest.

The festival, which took place on Winston Farm in Saugerties, New York went down as "Mudstock" as the rain gave way for fans to have mud fights and mud mosh pits. But don't worry, it wasn't as lawless as the 1999 festival, but still a little more rowdy than the hippie rendition in 1969.

“I feared after I committed to do it that it would be a corporate nightmare, with a Pepsi logo behind the Woodstock thing. But from being here, I’ve got a pretty good vibe. And I’m pleased to see that it turned out to be so far a pretty positive thing for the fans that came here to see us.” - Nine Inch Nails front man Trent Reznor.

Now that another 25+ years has passed, we're looking back at our favorite setlists from the 1994 line up that featured both the heart and soul of the 1990s (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Primus, Nine Inch Nails, Green Day, The Cranberries, Metallica, Sheryl Crow, Salt N Pepa) and the heart and soul of the OG Woodstock (Bob Dylan, The Band, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Santana, Bob Weir of Grateful Dead, Joe Cocker).

The festival paved way for many iconic sets that are still talked about to this day: from Green Day's notorious mud fight that propelled them into stardom, to Bob Dylan's epic electric set that began a new phase in his long-lived career - There's too many sets to fit into one blog but these are noteworthy!

Special Setlist Note: "When Les Claypool began the opening riff of My Name is Mud, he knew he had made a mistake stating 'Boy, I just opened a big old can of worms, didn't I.' People started throwing mud onstage, to which he replied 'Keep the mud to yourself you son of a bitch. Ya know, people who throw mud show a lack of significant genitalia.' At which point the band continued the song."

Fun Fact: NIN drew in the crowd at the festival, and before going on stage, the band had a mud wrestling match, then went on to perform their set completely drenched and covered mud.
