Avril Lavigne is back on tour for the first time in over five years.
The "Sk8er Boi" singer just kicked off her Head Above Water Tour, in support of her latest album of the same name. Head Above Water was released back in February, spawning singles "Tell Me It's Over," "Dumb Blonde," a title track and a Nicki Minaj collab (</3) "I Fell in Love with the Devil."
Lavigne says her battle with Lyme Disease inspired her to write the album. "[Head Above Water is] personal, dear, intimate, dramatic, raw, powerful, strong and unexpected," she said during the writing process. "This record is a true emotional journey."
The 15-date fall trek kicked off Saturday night (September 15) in Seattle, and will see Lavigne hit up cities like Oakland, Denver, Chicago, Detroit and New York City before wrapping things up in Philadelphia on October 11.
On the tour's opening night at Seattle's Paramount Theatre, Lavigne treated fans to a 15-song setlist, which included some throwbacks, a two-song encore and a live debut.
After opening with "Head Above Water," she played 2000s bops "My Happy Ending," "Here's to Never Growing Up," "What the Hell" and "Complicated" before live debuting one of her new songs, "It Was In Me."
She closed out the main set with fan-favorites "Girlfriend," "He Wasn't" and "Sk8er Boi" and performed "I Fell in Love with the Devil" and "I'm With You" for an encore... all while rockin' her signature black eye makeup and punk princess ensemble.
