Iron Maiden Wraps Legacy of the Beast North American Tour - Recap

Believe it or not, heavy metal legends Iron Maiden have just wrapped on one of the final legs of their Legacy of the Beast world tour, a multi-year run inspired by a mobile game they released in 2017. Yes, Iron Maiden’s most recent tour is in support of and influenced by a comic and video game — and it has been nothing short of spectacular.

From production to setlist, the distinguished rockers have kept their promise when originally describing the run as a history and hits tour. Having released sixteen studio albums since 1980, Iron Maiden has plenty of songs in their never-ending catalogue to more than fulfill a hits set.

Originally kicking off the most recent North American leg of the tour back in July, the East London natives have hit thirty-three cities up and down the continent, playing a total of thirty-five shows. However, over the course of the entire tour, which opened in May, 2018, Iron Maiden has played over seventy live performances in Europe, North America and South America and are gearing up for a few more shows in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Chile through mid October.

Although they’ve gone through a few temporary lineup changes over the years, it’s no surprise that the band is back on tour as they’ve been known as a touring band. With few hiatuses over the years, it’s no surprise that Iron Maiden has looked as polished as ever going into the final few shows on the current tour.

When you use the graphics of video games as inspiration for a live production, you can only imagine the result. From a moving to-scale overhead airplane to an outdoor themed stage lined with hedges on every level, the production was out of this world all tour long. And let’s not forget about the outrageous wardrobe featuring cloaks inspired by the video game and the more typical black muscle tee and leather pant Iron Maiden attire.

However, even with the flashy nature of Iron Maiden’s persona, their shows always boil down to the music and they sure brought it on this tour. The setlist throughout this leg has remained untouched each night, giving fans an equal opportunity to catch the same show in every city.

Opening with the 1984 record “Aces High,” Iron Maiden quickly proved that this show was indeed stacked with the hits. They continued with countless more record-selling songs like “2 Minutes to Midnight,” “The Trooper” and “Fear of the Dark.”

Pulling the most from their 1983 album Piece of Mind, the band threw in a few deeper cuts from the record like “Where Eagles Dare,” “Revelations” and “Flight of Icarus” before ending off the main set with the undeniable hits and two most-played songs live “The Number of the Beast” and “Iron Maiden.”

But that wouldn’t be the last the audience would see of Iron Maiden every night. Do you really think legends as big as them would leave without an encore? Of course not. After leaving the stage following a premature goodbye during “Iron Maiden,” the metal pioneers returned to stage for a three-song encore featuring “The Evil That Men Do,” “Hallowed Be Thy Name” and “Run to the Hills.” And if you thought the pyrotechnics, instrumental solos and set design was a lot during the first set, you're in for quite the encore surprise.
