Dinosaur Jr. Played 20 Songs with 2 Live Debuts at Drive-In Shows

Over the weekend, East Coast indie rock fans got to experience some type of normalcy as Dinosaur Jr. is the latest band to host a drive-in concert event.

Their shows opened up on September 11th at South Farms in Morris, Connecticut with a career sprawling, 20-song setlist. Not only did they play their fan favorites, but they worked in deep cuts and most excitedly, TWO live debuts.

“We finished an album somehow during Covid times, I guess it won’t come out for a little while, but we’re gonna play a couple songs.” - J Mascis

The new songs are called "Long Time" and "Garden." You can listen to them below:

The set opened up with "Thumb" and included four songs off of their popular LP You're Living All Over Me. Other albums they worked in included Dinosaur, Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not, Green Mind, Where You Been, Beyond, Bug, Farm, I Bet on Sky and Without a Sound.

They treated fans to a three-song encore which received plenty of honks and cheers - ending the night on their cover of The Cure's "Just Like Heaven."

The next concert took place on September 12th at Cheshire County Fairgrounds in Swanzey, New Hampshire. They switched up the setlist but still performed 20 songs, played the two new ones, and picked cuts off the same albums.

They opened with "The Lung" and later on in the set, comedian John Moloney joined in on second drum kit for the song "The Wagon."

Another fun surprise came when they covered Deep Wound's "Training Ground." The set ended on "Gargoyle" before they came back out to encore the same songs as the night before. Check out the full setlist here:
