Phil Collins Deems Las Vegas Concert His Last - See What Happened

It’s been nearly a decade since Phil Collins announced his retirement back in 2010. Fortunately for us fans across the globe, that retirement didn’t last as long as it had implied. Instead, the Genesis legend made the decision to come out of retirement back in 2017 for his Not Dead Yet Live tour.

Following a tremendous response, Collins set out for an add-on to the original tour deemed the Still Not Dead Yet Live tour, which kicked off at the start of the summer.

Eager to build on his already unmatched status as one of the greatest rock icons in the world, Collins brought out all the stops for this comeback tour, including his own son, Nicolas Collins, who filled in on drums throughout the run. Talk about a destined moment on an illustrious return.

After fifteen monumental nights on the most recent leg of the tour, including two sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden, Collins brought the Still Not Dead Yet Live tour to an official end at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and what an end it was.

Taking advantage of the large-scale production behind him, Collins sat down for much of the night, referencing the name of the tour as an indication of his decision. However, that didn’t matter much because with a talent as great as his, he could have sat alone on stage and still put on a show to remember.

Throughout most of the tour, Collins has seldom tweaked the setlist from night-to-night. Instead, he has stuck to a perfectly arranged set as he managed to touch on practically every key era and style from his five decade-long career. Including classics from both his time in Genesis and his success as a solo artist, the British legend crafted just the right setlist for a culminating comeback tour.

Although he hasn’t released a full studio album since 2011, Collins’ more recent work has matched that of the former, becoming platinum-selling just like the rest. However, even considering that success, Collins included more from his first three solo albums than he did any other content on this tour.

Pulling greatly from Face Value (1981), No Jacket Required (1985) and ...But Seriously (1989), Collins and company was sure to take advantage of the nostalgic appeal playing undeniable hits like “Another Day In Paradise,” “Hang In Long Enough,” “Don’t Lose My Number,” “I Missed Again,” “Something Happened on the Way to Heaven,” “In The Air Tonight” and “Sussudio.”

Of course, with such an expansive career behind him, including performing as the drummer for the British rock band Genesis, Collins also performed a variety of Genesis classics spread throughout the night. From “Throwing It All Away” to “Follow You Follow Me” and “Invisible Touch,” Collins reminded the Vegas audience of his pure rock roots as a member of one of the most successful rock bands of all time within a few simple performances.

Sure to end off the night on a high note — literally — Collins returned to the stage for a one-song encore featuring his 1985 solo hit “Take Me Home.” With the audience in the palm of his hand, the London native led the room in a once-in-a-lifetime sing along to a classic song like no other. What a perfect finale to a seemingly never-ending resurgence of rock royalty.

Yet, the biggest moment of the night came when Collins himself announced that the show would be his last performance. And with that final bow, Collins marked the end to not only the Not Dead Yet and Still Not Dead Yet Live binary tours, but also a potential finale to an unparalleled legacy.

But will that truly be the end? It sure seems like it following his live commentary. However, even with the questionable fate of Collins’ career moving forward, we can still hold out hope to see the Genesis stand-out back on the road once again.
