Q&A with Kiiara

Emerging pop singer Kiiara is making the most of her time in lockdown. Having worked with artists like Linkin Park, PVRIS, DeathbyRomy and releasing a string of singles since 2015, she finally unveiled her debut album, lil kiiiwi, on October 9th. We had the chance to check in with her to see what she’s been doing in quarantine, her modified plans for 2020 and what she’s looking forward to next. Read on:

How are you doing right now with everything going on in the world? Mentally, emotionally, physically, professionally?

I'm doing surprisingly well considering everything going on in the world right now. Mentally and professionally I've been staying pretty busy... focused on writing and creating. I've been in the studio a lot and have shot a couple music videos in the past few months along with photoshoots :) Emotionally, I've had good and bad days but that's despite the pandemic. My emotions are very up and down depending on what's happening in my personal life. Physically I've been running a lot on the treadmill and have been going on hikes every now and then with my friends.

How is this lockdown impacting your creativity?

The lockdown hasn't impacted my creativity too much. I don't leave the house much in general pandemic or not. I usually only go to the studio and the grocery store, so not much has changed in that department. The only thing that had initially changed was my recording process. I had to learn how to record my own vocals during quarantine, but now that studios have opened back up, I've been able to work with my engineer again.

What song or lyric in your catalog of music can help fans get through 2020?

"this time this time ur not alone." Don Diablo and I have this song called "You're Not Alone" and I feel like now more than ever the lyrics are super helpful. It's one of those songs that even reminds me that I'm not alone no matter how isolated I feel at times.

What were your plans for 2020 originally, and what are they now?

My original plans for 2020 were to release my album and tour the world. Half of which has happened :) and for that I am grateful. I hope I'll be able to tour soon. I really miss my fans and can't wait to be back on the road. In the meantime, I recently released my debut album lil kiiwi. I've also been working on quite a few features during quarantine and I'll be sprinkling songs here and there when you least expect it!

What are you looking forward to most in 2021?

I am looking forward to touring in 2021 !!!! fingers crossed 🙂
