The Beatles Played 10-Song Sets on John Lennon's Birthday in 1964

Imagine (all the people - JK), it's 1964 and The Beatles are on a UK Tour. Its the start of Beatlemania and in the UK they're already a huge deal. The day is October 9th, John Lennon's 24th birthday, and the band is in Bradford, playing TWO sets at Gaumont Cinema for hysterical fans.

If Lennon was alive today, he'd be turning 80. While he's physically no longer here, his legacy has only become more encompassing with each passing year. We're joining many others today in celebrating Lennon by taking a look back at that little concert in Bradford on John's Birthday exactly 56 years ago today.

The fellas played two sets that evening as they often would during their touring years - one at early set at 6:15 PM and one later set at 9:00 PM. Both featured a 10-song set that was dominated by songs off of A Hard Day's Night.

They would fire off the show with their famous cover of "Twist and Shout" before going into another cover - "Money (That's What I Want)." After that was a series of originals that included "Can't Buy Me Love," "I'm Happy Just to Dance With You," "I Wanna Be Your Man" and "A Hard Day's Night." They would finish off the concert with a bang by covering Little Richard's "Long Tall Sally."
