Tom Petty Played 20-Song Set On His Birthday in 2006

Happy Birthday to the late and great Tom Petty, who passed away suddenly just three years ago on October 2, 2017.

Today, October 20, would have been the American rocker's 70th birthday, so we're honoring his legacy with a Birthday setlist we've pulled from the Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers archives.

The concert took place 14 years ago on October 20, 2006, his 56th birthday, at Raley Field in Sacramento, California. The show was a stop on the band's 30th Anniversary Highway Companion Tour. They graced the stage with a 20-song setlist, and a very special surprise guest!

The show opened up with "Listen to Her Heart" and since it was an anniversary celebration, the setlist was filled up with all the hits and fan favorites like "Mary Jane's Last Dance," "Free Fallin"," "Learnin' to Fly" and "Refugee."

They also pulled out several covers, doing renditions of songs like "Oh Well" by Fleetwood Mac. Speaking of FM, half-way through the set the band introduced their special guest of the night, Miss Stevie Nicks. They performed her song "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" followed by "I Need to Know." A couple songs later, she joined in on "Insider."

Embedded content is no longer available.

The show ended on "Runnin' Down a Dream" before they concluded the night with a three-song encore, wrapping up for good with "American Girl." Check out the full setlist below:
